All the stories and meetigns proved them the the indiscriminate violence of the Burmese military junta, and secondly the determination of Burmese people - politicals, ethnic minorities, journalists, doctors, students, monks and ordinary citizens... Belgium, Europe and the United Nations must be at their sides.

Back home, their parliamentary work begins. Karine Lalieux and Jean Cornil will claims and the following requests :

  1. Support the establishment of an international commission for inquiries on war crimes and crimes against humanity - already denounced by the UN Special Rapporteur.
  2. Require the immediate cessation of attacks against ethnic minorities.
  3. Ask the maintain of humanitarian aid to refugee camps in Thailand and to the dispaced camps.
  4. Put the refugee camps under UNHCR protection..
  5. Denouncing the electoral process instaured by the junta, a farce the NLD did not participate.
  6. Require before the electoral process : release for all political prisoners and they are authorized to run for the election, cease all hostilities against ethnic minorities and pro-democratic forces, open dialogue and review the Constitution.
  7. Maintain and strengthen targeted sanctions against the Burmese regime. Including prohibiting the use of the euro.
  8. Finally, require the European Union to aske the ASEAN representatives to remove power to the Burma Ambassador. He is responsible for Human Rights !

Karine Lalieux et Jean Cornil will propose after Easter a resolution setting out these requirements and asking Belgium to put the Burma situation on the agenda European Council, during the Belgian Presidency. An appointment has been already asked to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, and similar will be asked to Mrs Aschton, Mr. Van Rompuy, and Commissioner for Development Cooperation. MEPs have already been mobilized to begin approaches at the European Parliament
