Mahatma Gandhi Prize for Reconciliation and Peace, awarded to the emprisonned burmese opponent Aung San Suu Kyi, was given today in Durban (South Africa) to her representative, Sein Win. The Mahatma Gandhi Prize reward individuals for their actions for democracy, justice and peace. It was created in 2003 in memory of Gandhi Indian politician who began his political struggle in South Africa. In 2008 the prize was awarded to the first black president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.
