The so-called "People's universities" exist in several European countries : Germany, Spain, Italy, France... In France, they are born after an ethnic conflict.

The aim is to share widely knowledge and culture, in order to reduce the gap between intellectuals and workers, and give them a political conscience.

The People's University is not a real university : no registred students, no degrees. This is an adult audience, which comes on the evening after their day's work. Lectures are free of charge.

Lectures are not organized by the Education administration but by NGOs, They may use schools rooms and buildings, but not only.This is an adults education service, open into the city.

Lectures themes are : art ; cinema ; politics ; jazz ; economy ; literature ; philosophy ; architecture ; psychoanalysis.
